But, first, can I ask you a few questions?
Have you ever wondered how the top combat fighters in the world train to get to where they are?
I mean you train hard each week. You go religiously to your combat sports classes, you head to the gym for a weight workout when you can and try your hardest to follow a healthy diet.
But what is the difference between you and those fighters.
It’s questions like this that we often ask ourselves when we reach certain barriers in life and don’t know how to overcome them.
There is no doubt that you are training hard, searching for the right information and then trying to put it into action, but you still can’t make improvements or reach the goal that you have set for yourself.
Is it your training? Is your nutrition? Are you working out enough? Are you even doing the right workouts?
The good thing is that you are not alone, there are thousands of combat athletes in different sports that are in the same situation and must find ways overcome these barriers.
And let’s face it, those top professional fighters probably have lots of help.
My name is Funk Roberts, I’m a dedicated MMA conditioning coach, certified metabolic trainer, kettlebell instructor, CPT and fitness professional and run FunkMMA, one of the largest Combat strength and conditioning websites on the web. I have trained professional and amateur combat fighters from around the world.
My partner, Flex Marks a certified C.P.T N (Canadian Personal Trainers Network), A.C.E (American Council on Exercise), and P.P.T.S (Professional Personal Trainers School), Strength and Conditioning Coach, a former high-level kick boxer and founder of Flex Training System also trains MMA athletes online and onsite from around the world.
It is our mission to help, educate and motivate combat athletes like yourself so you can achieve extraordinary strength and conditioning in order to help you become and Elite Combat Fighter.
A year ago, I decided to survey thousands of Combat athletes asking them what barriers they were facing with strength and conditioning.
The results confirmed what I had been hearing for years from fighters, trainers, coaches and gym owners from all over the world.
Even when I was in Thailand; training at one of the top 10 UFC rated MMA and Muay Thai camps, I learned that fighters from around the world were also struggling with the same problems.
Due to my success and research I began to share this solution with other athletes, clients and fighters from around the world, all enjoying incredible success.
But before I share the solution with you, let’s take a DEEPER look at the 3 most common barriers facing MMA, Combat and Martial Arts Athletes.
Addressing these three barriers head on can greatly accelerate your results and save you a lot of time and heartache. Let’s take a closer look, shall we…
What type of workouts, exercises and protocols do I include in my training program?
Do you have problems trying to figure out what kind of workouts you should be doing each week to help you build more power and strength, increase your muscular endurance, improve your cardio and build a rock solid core region?
The number one barrier that most MMA and Combat Athletes face is what type of workouts to do weekly, in order to improve their overall conditioning. It can be very frustrating when you put in an hour 3 or 4 times a week in the gym lifting weights only to find that your still not very explosive, your muscles still give out early while grappling on the mat, your still sucking wind after 5 minutes of skipping or 10 minutes on the heavy bag.
You’re just not making any progress.
When there is no one to guide you or you get conflicting training info you tend to revert back to the only type of training you know and that’s traditional bodybuilding style weight training.
Traditional weight training focuses on isolation movements, which are great for bodybuilders trying to add size and muscularity, but MMA and other combat sports involve multiple joints and muscular moments.
There is nothing more annoying than trying to fit in your strength workouts and cardio sessions in each week? How many times have you been right on track one week, frequenting the gym four or five times, only to fall behind with only one workout the following week.
The result is missed workouts and this will be detrimental to your overall progress. If you have no cardio you won’t have the stamina to make it through drills or learn new techniques.
We all lead busy lives, whether it’s school, work, family or appointments that we have to attend along with our training. Some of you train 2, 3 and 4 X a week just on your sport. Monday is Muay Thai – Wednesday is BJJ and Friday is MMA and Grappling.
When the heck can you fit in your workouts as well as everything else? I feel your pain and it can become very overwhelming.
Today I am going to show you how to fit your strength and conditioning workouts into your weekly schedule so you never have to miss another workout.
While skill training needs to remain your primary focus, strength and conditioning cannot take a back seat.
The better conditioned athlete you are, the more effective and efficient you will be in the learning phase or enhancement phase of your combat fighting skills.
If you’re not a conditioned athlete… you will not get better. How can you practice that new move in sparing or rolling when you’re too gassed to even think?
Are you sick of trying to figure out what, when and how much you should be eating to help with fat loss, building lean muscle, increase energy for peak performance and speed up recovery between training?
One of the most challenging elements of being a sports athlete is what to eat! How much to eat and when to eat it. Being an MMA athlete is no exception.
Trust me when I tell you that you are not alone. From the beginner all the way to professional fighters they all face the same nutrition difficulties. Why do you think UFC and Pro fighters invest in Nutritionists to help them prepare for fights?
As a Combat Athlete you must separate yourself from regular people when it comes to nutrition. You are preparing for battle…literally.
In order to train, fight and perform at your peak (whether in competition or day to day living), you need to feed your body the right food at the right time and ensure it’s the optimal amount.
Conversely, eating the wrong foods can be a detriment to your training program and can hinder your overall performance. You will find yourself losing the strength and muscles you have worked extremely hard for. You’ll add unwanted weight, feel fatigued and sluggish, increase inflammation and slow down recovery between training sessions.
And no matter how hard you workout, how many sprints you do or how many rounds your spar, “You Can’t Out Train a Bad Diet”!
Eating the right food at the right time will allow you to train at your peak level, give you increased energy, help you to recover faster and increase your metabolism so you burn more fat faster than ever.
Conclusion: With one or all of these barriers facing you each week I can totally see why you get frustrated when they are not making any gains or progress, getting injured all the time and still carry around unwanted fat in those hard to lose places.
The end result is that you choose to or are forced to quit your passion, which is Mixed Martial Arts and Combat Training.
This is why Flex and I have developed this resource as a way of giving you the competitive edge, help you develop your weaknesses while destroying the barriers that have kept you from reaching your potential.
We created this product based on your needs, desires, fears, problems and concerns.
Just think how it will feel if you were told the exact exercises and workouts you need to do in order to improve your performance in your combat sport.
AND… having those workout routines already laid out for you, so you don’t have to stress over what to do, all you have to worry about is getting through the session.
How about if you possessed everlasting cardio so you can go 10 extra rounds during sparring or while rolling on the mat during grappling sessions.
Imagine heading to the kitchen knowing what foods to eat or cook so you can finally get rid of that stubborn fat you’ve been carrying around for years.
How are you going to feel when you look in the mirror and see the 6-pack flash out from under your shirt? The 6-pack you have been struggling to get for years.
And what about the endless amount of energy you are going to have throughout the day.
No more nagging injuries.
The truth is you can experience all of the above and more with our new solution.

Glory Series and K1 Fighter – Muay Thai Champion
Hey Funk I wanted to let you know how much I really appreciate everything you do for the fight community as well as what you have done for me.
Over the past year and a half I have followed you and have used a number of your workout to help shed unwanted weight. As an ex collegiate All-American I was very familiar with working out however it was not until I started working you program that I began to really shed the weight. At 40 years old I can say I am in the best shape of my life. Currently I fight 3 times a year and that type of schedule can be difficult on the body.
Normally 5 weeks out I begin to tapper off from heavy lifting and Crossfit and begin to include 3 days a week of your body weight workouts to go along with the normal running and heavy thai pad and sparring. I find that when cutting down from 195 to my fight weight of 170 this is what works best for me. Some of the workouts I follow on the regular are MMA Extreme #1 & #2 Heavy Bag Circuit, finisher-conditioning circuit and refuse to lose.
Fitness Trainer and MMA Fighter
Once I started training MMA I realized the demands this sport asked for; cardio, strength, speed, nutrition, and mental focus. Funk Roberts and the FunkMMA videos have not only made me a better fighter through conditioning circuits, heavy bag, battle ropes, and kettlebell workouts, but also through information on nutrition. I’ve stopped training like a body builder and started training like a fighter. Every day I watch videos of Funk and his amazing workouts and I suggest to anyone looking to become a better fighter, athlete, or person overall, to definitely check out FunkMMA and all that Funk Roberts has to offer.
I just wanted to tell you thanks for making so much information available for the rest of us worldwide. As a personal trainer I have used many of the technique tips and unique movements from your demo video series with my clients. My girlfriend also pays rapt attention when I watch your vids as well (not just for your abs bro 😉 and has really taken her butt-workout to the next level using some of your exercises. As an older athlete and professional fighter, I have to guard myself against injury but also maintain game shape and flexibility. The fighter-oriented workouts are really the way to end a training session with intensity while lowering the risk of hurting myself. I wish I had a personal Strength and Conditioning coach as capable as yourself, but your YouTube channel is the next best thing!
